The maaseh behind it
Some seven hundred years ago, Rabbeinu Eshtori HaParchi identified the house of the Ishah HaShunamis in Kfar Sulam — the place where Elisha Hanavi brought the almanah's son back to life. The Steipler zt"l brought Rav Shmidel there and paskened that it is mesugal specifically for davening for kinder, on the strength of the ancient sefer Kaftor VaFerach. From then on his son, Reb Chaim Kanievsky zt"l, sent countless yidden there — and made a point of going and davening there himself for this very inyan.
What the shliach does there
The shliach toivels in the mikveh and is mazkir the names of the man and the isha who are davening to be nifkad. He says the gantze sefer Tehillim in the makom hamesugal, reads the perakim of the neis of the Ishah HaShunamis from sefer Melachim, lights zibben licht, and is oiver a pidyon nefesh for the couple.
